Everyone should make homemade cranberry sauce for their Christmas table. It tastes far better than anything from a jar and takes just a few minutes to make. An as you can prepare it a few days in advance, it doesn’t add to the stress of cooking on Christmas Day!
Homemade Cranberry Sauce
The perfect accompaniment to your Christmas turkey, and without doubt one of the most important 'trimmings' on the Christmas table.
Ingredients
- 100 grams granulated sugar
- 100 grams port
- 400 grams fresh cranberries (rinsed)
- Zest and juice of one whole orange
- 1 star anise and/ or a stick of cinammon (optional)
Instructions
- Put all the ingredients into a pan and bring to the boil.
- Simmer for 9 – 10 minutes, until the cranberries have broken down to a rough pulp, stirring frequently to stop the sauce sticking. Use a wooden spoon to help crush any remaining whole cranberries.
- Serve immediately or keep in the fridge for a few days.
